David Craig Celander, 62, passed away January 31, 2017. David was born July 27, 1954 to Richard Dwight Celander and Nadine Lavon (Chiri) Celander in Des Moines, Iowa.  David was one of six children.

David grew up in Williamson, attended Chariton High School. David married the love of his life Rose Mary Collins in October of 1985. They shared a special bond in so many ways sharing many fond memories throughout the years. David was beside her taking care of her lovingly until her passing, she had a yard stick to “poke” him as he slept beside her on the floor if she needed him during the night. They met while they both were working at the hospital. To this marriage was born a daughter Michelle.

David worked in the maintenance department at the Lucas County Hospital in Chariton for over 45 years, retiring in November of 2015. He was a man with a kind heart, always willing to help anyone in need. His enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, watching hockey, collecting coins, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandson Ramisis. David was always there attending every game and watching him play sports. He always had a smile on his face and loved his family very much. He enjoyed telling stories to all who would listen with his creative thinking and elaborate additions to the stories he told.

David is preceded in death by his father Richard I, wife Rose, brothers Richard II and Mike, sister Linda Vairo, brother-in-law Pete Vairo and niece Lynda McVey. Left to cherish his memories are mother Nadine Celander, daughter Michelle, grandson Ramisis, sisters Nancy (Jim) Mundy of Altoona and Susan (Randy) Grove of Carlisle. Nieces and Nephews Traci (Quinton) Kingery of Altoona, Brad (Clare) Mundy of Pleasant hill, Shantel (Glen) Nicholson of Des Moines, Justin (Sara) Grove of Des Moines, Johnny (Nichole) Vairo of Chariton, Toni Mundy of West Des Moines, Rick Celander, Willie Celander and Donnie Celander.
