Martha Darlene Schreck, age 82, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2017, at the Legacy
Lodge in Chariton surrounded by her loving family. Darlene was born on March 31, 1935, in
Chariton, Iowa to Arthur and Neva (Smith) Brown and was the oldest of 3 children. She was
raised in rural Lucas County and attended a country school in Lucas County. Darlene married
George Schreck in 1961.

She worked a variety of jobs throughout her life which include babysitting, housekeeping, and
ironing but her most important job was being a Mom to her 5 children. She considered this her
most important role throughout her life. Her and her kids spent many summer days gardening,
canning and freezing produce from their family garden. Darlene enjoyed spending her later time in life embroidering including making baby quilts for grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her 5 children: Jim Schreck, Debbie (Allen) Carpenter, Ron (Pam) Schreck,
Donna (Steve) Wolvers, and Kevin Schreck; 14 grandchildren: Nikki (Jason) Shounkwiler, Amy
(Ryan) Tharp, Brett (Amy) Carpenter, Joel (Kiley) Schreck, Anna Wolvers, Brandon (Molly)
Carpenter, Ross Schreck, Eric (Tanya) Wolvers, Breanne (Beau) Leymaster, Brady Carpenter,
Bryce Carpenter, Bradley Wolvers, Connor Wolvers, Bronson Carpenter; 21 great
grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, George Schreck; her parents, Arthur & Neva
Brown; brothers, Donald Brown and Ronnie Brown; sisters in law, Carolyn Brown, Lucille
Schreck and Fern Manser; brothers in law, Doyle Manser and John Schreck, Jr.
