Butch Gwinn

October 1, 1941 ~ May 1, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Willie “Butch” Gwinn, Jr., 75, Chariton, Iowa

Willie Butch Gwinn, Jr., passed away on May 1, 2017, at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Butch was born on October 1, 1941 in Lucas, Iowa to Bill and Zella (Kent) Gwinn. After returning home from the Army, Butch became a lifelong resident of Chariton. Butch, unfortunately lost his father at a young age but was blessed to have spent his life near his mother, brother Gene (Connie), sisters Lettie (Mel) and Bonnie (late Duane). Butch and his siblings remained close his whole life and they were always there for him. Butch was a trucker and loved the road. He tried other jobs in his youth, but always climbed back in his cab. After driving for Jimmy Dean for many years, Butch became an owner-operator. In his final days, his biggest fear was not being able to drive that truck! Other loves were his horse “Bud” and his Harley. Butch married Connie (Selby) Hawk in the spring of 1963. Later on April 16, 1971, he married Roberta (Elliott) Greene. Butch and Bert (Hotdog and Lady hotdog) were the love of each other’s lives. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, and Connie and Bert. Butch leaves behind many family members and close friends who will remember him for his toughness, generosity, sense of humor, work ethic, and wild side. He never lost his hunger for fun and all his friends continually fed him. Butch always said, “years of a steady paycheck and someday you will have something”. We will miss you terribly, DAD.
